Allopurinol is an oral medication typically used to prevent uric acid and calcium oxalate stones in dogs. It is also used off-label to treat leishmaniasis and gout in dogs and other species. Side effects are uncommon but may involve stomach upset. Caution must be taken when allopurinol is used in conjunction with certain other medications. It should not be used in pets with liver or kidney dysfunction or in red-tailed hawks.

Cephalexin (brand names Rilexine®, Keflex®, Vetolexin®) is an oral antibiotic used to treat pyoderma and other bacterial skin infections in dogs and is used off-label in cats to treat pyoderma and other types of skin infections. It is sometimes used off-label to treat urinary tract infections in cats and dogs. Side effects of cephalexin are rare and usually mild.

Afoxolaner is a chewable tablet used to treat and prevent flea and tick infestations in dogs. It has also been used off-label to treat certain types of mange and mites. Give as directed by your veterinarian. Side effects are uncommon but may include stomach upset or neurologic symptoms. Do not use in pets with a history of seizures. Imatinib is given by mouth and is used off label to treat certain types of cancers in dogs and cats. Give as directed. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, diarrhea, skin rash, or lack of energy. Do not use in pets that are pregnant or nursing. If a negative reaction occurs, call the veterinary office.

Sildenafil is given by mouth or injection and is used off label to treat high blood pressure in the lungs or to treat megaesophagus. Give as directed. Side effects are uncommon but may include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, or skin redness in the groin area. Do not use in pets that are allergic to it or pets that take nitrate medications. Lokivetmab is given by injection and is used on and off label to treat itchiness in dogs. Give as directed.
