  • Abdominal enlargement may develop for many reasons depending on the age and gender of the cat. It can be a simple problem and even a normal condition in some pets. However, abdominal enlargement can also indicate serious underlying disease. Prognosis depends on the underlying cause.

  • Rivaroxaban is an anticoagulant used to prevent or treat blood clots in cats and dogs. It is used off label (extra label) in veterinary medicine. Rivaroxaban comes in tablet form. Monitor for unusual bleeding, bruising, pale gums, extreme weakness, collapse, and/or difficulty breathing.

  • Oxytocin is a hormonal agent used to induce or enhance uterine contractions at the time of birth in cats, dogs, rabbits, rodents, and other mammals. Oxytocin is also used in mammals to help start milk production, control uterine bleeding, and help shrink the uterus to normal size after birth. It has been used in birds and reptiles to help resolve egg binding.

  • Nizatidine is a histamine-2 (H2) blocker antacid used to help prevent and/or treat stomach ulcers in cats and dogs. It may also be used as a prokinetic agent to help empty the stomach. It is used off label (extra label) in veterinary medicine. Nizatidine comes in oral capsule, tablet, and liquid forms.

  • Moxifloxacin ophthalmic is a topical antibiotic used to treat bacterial eye infections in cats, dogs, rabbits, and other animals. This medication is used off label in veterinary medicine. Moxifloxacin ophthalmic comes in liquid drop suspension form.

  • Medium chain triglycerides (MCT) oil is a lipid (fat) used as a nutritional supplement to provide calories and fatty acids to dogs on fat-restricted diets. It has also been used to help with cognitive dysfunction in dogs and cats, as well as a supportive treatment for epilepsy in dogs. MCT oil comes in an oral form to be given with food. Avoid use in animals with severe liver disease.

  • Lotilaner + moxidectin + praziquantel + pyrantel (brand name Credelio Quattro®) is a combination antiparasitic used to protect against ticks, fleas, heartworm disease, roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older and weighing at least 3.3 lb (1.5 kg). It comes in a chewable tablet to be given monthly. Its use is currently only approved for dogs.

  • Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat multi-drug-resistant, gram-positive bacterial infections in cats and dogs. Its use is limited to susceptible infections with documented resistance to other antimicrobials. Its use is off label in veterinary medicine. Linezolid comes in tablet and powder forms that may be compounded into liquid.

  • Isopropyl myristate topical (brand name Resultix®) is a topical, non-insecticidal product containing an ester alcohol (isopropyl) and an acid (myristate). It is used for the removal and killing of attached, crawling ticks on cats and dogs. Sprays are applied topically, directly to the skin at the site of tick attachment.

  • Imepitoin (brand name Pexion®) is a behavior modification medication used to treat noise aversion in dogs. It may also be used to treat noise phobias in dogs or as an anticonvulsant to treat idiopathic epilepsy in cats and dogs. Its use may be off label depending on condition, species, and jurisdiction. Imepitoin comes in tablet form.
