Fipronil with permethrin, topical (brand name Effitix®), is a medication used to treat and control fleas, ticks, and chewing lice in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older and weighing more than 2.3 kg (5 lb). Fipronil with permethrin topical is also labeled for repelling biting flies and for repelling and killing mosquitoes. It may also be used as a treatment of sarcoptic mange in dogs.

Chloroxylenol topical, also known as PCMX, is a topical antiseptic used on the skin prior to surgery and in wound cleaning in cats, dogs, and exotic species. It has been used to treat bacterial, fungal, and yeast skin infections. It is toxic to aquatic species. All forms are applied topically directly to the skin.

Clotrimazole topical is an antifungal used in the treatment of surface skin infections caused by fungal organisms in cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, reptiles, and other animals. Clotrimazole topical comes in a variety of forms that may be specially compounded and/or be combined with other medications. All forms are applied topically.

Carbimazole is a medication used to treat an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) in cats and other animals. Carbimazole lowers thyroid hormone levels. Carbimazole comes in tablet form.

Cefadroxil is an antibiotic (first-generation cephalosporin) used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, respiratory tract, and urinary tract in cats and dogs. It may be used off label in other cases. Cefadroxil comes in tablet and powder forms that may be compounded into liquid.

Milbemycin oxime is a heartworm disease preventive and treats internal parasites in dogs and cats (e.g., hookworms and roundworms). It is also used off label to treat infestations in dogs. Milbemycin is given by mouth with a flavored oral tablet.

Milbemycin oxime + praziquantel is a heartworm disease preventive that also controls tapeworms, hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms in dogs. It is given by mouth as a flavored chew tablet and must be given with a meal to ensure adequate absorption. At prescribed doses, this medication is well-tolerated. Your veterinarian will advise you on the safety of this combination product’s use in your dog. If you suspect an overdose or an adverse reaction to the medication, call your veterinary office immediately.

Oral calcium (-carbonate, -gluconate, -lactate) is a phosphorus binder and calcium supplement. It is used to treat high blood phosphorus levels in cats, dogs, and other animals with chronic kidney disease and to treat low blood calcium levels in cats, dogs, and other species. Oral calcium comes in powder, capsule, liquid suspension, and tablet forms.

Alendronate is a bone resorption inhibitor used to treat high levels of calcium in the blood in cats and dogs. It may also be used as part of the treatment plan for some types of bone cancer. It has been used to treat feline odontoclastic resorptive lesions (FORLs or tooth resorption) in cats. Alendronate comes in tablet and liquid suspension forms.
