  • Ursodiol is given by mouth and is used off label to treat gallbladder and biliary liver diseases in dogs, cats, horses, and birds. Give as directed by your veterinarian.

  • Toceranib phosphate is given by mouth and is used on and off label to treat mast cell tumors and other cancers in cats and dogs. Common side effects include diarrhea, decreased or lack of appetite, lameness, or weight loss.

  • Voriconazole is given by mouth or injection and is used off label to treat fungal infections in dogs, cats, horses, birds, and reptiles. Side effects are not well-known but may include vomiting, diarrhea, or decreased appetite.

  • Pyridostigmine bromide is given by mouth or injection and is used off label to treat symptoms related to myasthenia gravis. Give as directed.

  • Prednisone/prednisolone is given by mouth or injection and is used on and off label to treat Addison’s disease, inflammatory conditions, neoplasia (cancer), and immune-mediated diseases. Give this medication as directed by your veterinarian.

  • Potassium salts are given by mouth or injection and are primarily used off label to treat low blood potassium levels. Common side effects include nausea or discomfort.

  • Ponazuril is given by mouth and is used on and off label to treat protozoal parasites in several animal species. Side effects are uncommon but may include soft stools.

  • Bethanechol chloride is given by mouth or injection and is used off label to increase urinary or intestinal movement/activity. Common side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, and lack of appetite.

  • Marbofloxacin is given by mouth and is used on and off label to treat certain bacterial infections including leishmaniasis, tuberculosis, and hemoplasmosis. Common side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of appetite.

  • Methylprednisolone is given by mouth or injection and is used on and off label in dogs, cats, and horses to treat inflammatory, immune-mediated, and hormonal conditions. Common side effects include increased drinking, urination, and appetite, dull/dry haircoat, and/or weight gain.
