Ear cleansing/drying products are used over-the-counter to treat and prevent ear infections in many species of pets. They come as a liquid solution that is used topically within the ear canal and are typically used in the ears after debris and wax have been removed using a cerumenolytic cleanser.

Praziquantel is given on and off label and by mouth or injection to treat various internal parasites in cats, dogs, small mammals, birds, reptiles, and large animals. Do not use in pets that are allergic to it, in puppies less than 3 weeks old, or kittens less than 6 weeks old.

Ondansetron (brand names Zofran®, Zuplenz®) is given by mouth or injection and is used off label in dogs and cats to treat vomiting. Side effects are not common but include constipation, sleepiness, or head shaking. Do not use in pets that are allergic to the medication.

Pimobendan is a medication given by mouth as a tablet or liquid, used to treat congestive heart failure in dogs. Its use in cats is off label. The most common side effects include decreased appetite and diarrhea.

Misoprostol (brand names Cytotec®, Arthrotec®) is a prostaglandin E1 analog drug. It is used off label (extra label) to treat or prevent stomach ulcers due to NSAID use in cats, dogs, and horses. It can also be used in combination with other medications to treat uterine infections, protect the kidneys, treat skin allergies, or to terminate pregnancy.

Calcium carbonate + chitosan (brand name Epakitin®) is a phosphorus binder and calcium supplement. It is used to treat high blood phosphorus levels in cats and dogs with chronic kidney disease and to treat low blood calcium levels in cats, dogs, and other species.

Seboliance (brand name Douxo®S3 SEB) is a natural extract from the pomegranate plant (Punica granatum) used to help control dandruff, reduce odor, and help hydrate dry skin in cats and dogs. Seboliance may be part of a combination product containing ophytrium. Seboliance comes in mousse and shampoo forms.

Vitamin C injectable is a vitamin supplement used as an antioxidant to help treat certain toxicity syndromes or to create a more acidic urine in dogs and cats. It is also used in guinea pigs to treat scurvy. Vitamin C injectable comes as a solution for injection either under the skin or into the muscle. Injections may be given by veterinary personnel or at home by pet owners.

Tris-EDTA plus ketoconazole topical (brand name TrizUltra + Keto®) is an antifungal and antimicrobial cleansing agent used in the treatment of surface skin infections and to enhance the effectiveness of other topical antibiotics in cats, dogs, and other animals. It may be used as an otic flush to clean and treat ear infections (otitis externa). Tris-EDTA topical comes in liquid form.
