  • Atopivet® topical products are formulated to help maintain a healthy skin barrier and support skin health in cats and dogs. These skin care products are available over-the-counter in the forms of a mousse, spot-on, and skin-care collar.

  • Fenbendazole (brand names Panacur®, Safe-Guard®) is a medication used to treat a variety of parasites in dogs. Its use in cats for the treatment of parasites is off label or extra label. Fenbendazole comes as oral granules or as a liquid suspension and is given by mouth. At regular doses, fenbendazole does not usually cause any side effects. Fenbendazole should not be used in puppies younger than six weeks of age or in sick animals.

  • Pyrimethamine is an antiprotozoal tablet given by mouth and used off-label to treat certain parasitic infections. Common side effects include vomiting, low appetite, tiredness, and low blood cell counts. Cats are more likely to have more severe side effects. Pregnant women should handle this medication carefully.

  • Pilocarpine is used off-label and given by mouth in food to treat neurogenic keratoconjunctivitis sicca, and used topically in the eye to diagnose cranial nerve III problems. Common side effects include irritation of the eye, and more severe side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, increased salivation and urination, and coughing. Do not use in pets that are allergic to it or that have secondary glaucoma.

  • Milbemycin oxime is a heartworm disease preventive and treats internal parasites in dogs and cats (e.g., hookworms and roundworms). It is also used off label to treat infestations in dogs. Milbemycin is given by mouth with a flavored oral tablet.

  • The combination of activated charcoal, kaolin, and sorbitol (ToxiBan® suspension with sorbitol) is a non-drug health product used to help manage poison ingestion in dogs and cats. Charcoal and kaolin bind poisons in the stomach and intestinal tract, preventing the body from absorbing them. Sorbitol accelerates defecation, and so gets the poison out of the body faster.

  • Ophytrium is an ingredient extracted from Japanese mondo grass (Ophipogon japonicus) that is used in several topical treatments (i.e., Douxo® S3 products). It is used on dogs and cats with oily to flaky skin. It is believed to help control odor and dandruff, soothe and hydrate the skin, maintain the skin barrier, untangle the fur, and soften the coat.

  • Ultra-micronized palmitoylethanolamide (PEA-um), brand name Redonyl Ultra, is a nutraceutical used to support skin health in dogs and cats. PEA-um comes in oral chewable and powder forms. It is used "off label" or "extra label".

  • UroMAXX is a supplement used to support bladder and kidney function in cats and dogs. It has been used to support the treatment of urinary tract infections in cats and dogs. UroMAXX comes in oral chewable and liquid drop forms. It is used “off label” or “extra label”.

  • Neomycin, isoflupredone, and tetracaine (brand names Neo-Predef with Tetracaine, Tritop), is a combination antibiotic (neomycin), steroid (isoflupredone), and local anesthetic (tetracaine) used in the treatment of certain superficial infections. It is labeled for use in cats, dogs, and horses to treat certain types of skin and ear infections. It may be used"off label" or "extra label" to treat other conditions or in other species.
